Music Agenda 4/27-5/1

****The Band students were so amazing at the East Deanery Band Festival.  They were very polite and well behaved and worked well with all the students from other school.  The performance was outstanding!  Thank you to parents who came and joined us, and helped with all the clean up needs.   Thank you to Mrs. Epple for all the time and work she puts into Holy Spirit, merely as a volunteer.  Her passion and support could never be Thanked enough!

*****Special Thanks to parents in Annual Fund Dinner for getting there kids to practices, having them stay at practice until 4:30, communicating with me about kickball games and scheduling issues. THANK YOU!  IT MAKES THINGS SO MUCH EASIER!!! Special thanks to Mrs. Hartman, Mrs. Kappus, Ms. Spears, Mrs. Taylor for all there extra work with the work day, costumes and meetings to make this show a success.  Thank you to Miss Richardson, Ms. Peakcock, Mrs. Welty, Mrs. Newhart, Mr. Moran, Mr. Green and Mr. Shepherd for all their work and time thus far...IT TAKE A VILLAGE!!! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!!

Kindergarten- Students will create a short melodic pattern to sing and play on a classroom instrument using bells.  Students will continue to work on steady beat, and we will work on expanding vocal range with Becker, the musical hand puppet,  

First Grade-  We will be discovering musical terms and concepts such as pattern and line that are also used in other disciplines and express them through moving, drawing, or other appropriate means.  We will also Describe the importance of activities such as listening, reading, and moving that occur in music class and other curricular areas. 

Second Grade
Echo melodic and rhythmic patterns, Maintain a steady beat and play with appropriate dynamic levels,  Play classroom instruments with the proper technique, holding them correctly.  Learn correct names for classroom instruments and identify those associated with world cultures. Play simple ostinatos while others sing. Follow the cues of a conductor with regard to tempo and dynamics.  

Third Grade: Students continue working with the barred instruments.  They have been copying rhythms and patterns to become proficient in playing the instrument.  We will begin to start creating measure of music.  Pending ISTEP Schedule, we will be moving


Fourth Grade-  Recorders need to be in music class weekly, we are forgetting our recorders, please remind the kids to bring them!  Weekly grades are effected because students cannot test if they don't have the instrument.  Pending ISTEP Schedule, we will be moving

Fifth Grade- We are begin recorder karate 2.  Students will need their recorders everyday music class! Pending ISTEP Schedule, we will be moving







Annual Fund Dinner(AFD) Little Mermaid Jr.: PARENTS!!! PLEASE help by supporting your child's commitment to Annual Fund.  This is Holy Spirit's most important event for fundraising for the school, when the kids miss practice aside from illness, it really effects our practice time.  Please remind them of the importance of being at practice on Mon and Wednesdays.  Practices will go until 4:30, please make sure kids are staying until practice is over


The Advanced and Beginning Band  groups:  April 21st, East Deanery Band Festival, was such a success!  We are continuing work on  various songs "Hey Song", "Go Big Green", "Happy Birthday", and "Jaws", "Happy", "The Holy Spirit School Song", Seaway March, a few others.  These two groups have really been growing musically!  Their reading is really improving!   Guitars- They are exceptional group of students.  Such motivation and dedication!  They continue to work on their music for the concert on May 18th!  Pending ISTEP Schedule, we will be moving, no band this week due to ISTEP!

*********April 21st: East Deanery Band Festival: Permission Slips should all be in :)  .At: Scecina Memorial High School, When: April 21st, Time: We leave at 9:00AM, Transportation: Scecina Busses will pick the kids up, Lunch, Dinner and snacks: Provided at the festival.  You may notice that it is the same day as the North Star trip for 8th graders to Connor Prairie.  Students will go on the social studies trip and then come to Scecina at the end of the day.

Kindergarten- Students will be responding to my cues by singing and and using body percussion and instrumental sounds. Students will be improvising with answers to questions and with instruments and found items also. 

First Grade-  Instrument pass, repeating rhythms, steady beat work with classroom song

Second Grade-  We are going to listen to music and make movement and draw pictures.  Students will talk about emotions that go along with songs and pieces.  Students will listen to the pieces again while learning about the terms; Color, repetition and contrast. 
Third Grade: Students have begun working with the barred instruments.  They are copying rhythms and patterns to become proficient in playing the instrument.  We will begin to start creating measure of music.

Fourth Grade-  Recorders need to be in music class weekly, we are forgetting our recorders, please remind the kids to bring them! Students have the packets and can begin to practice and prepare for playing tests during the week.  Students will work to learn songs in class, and then be tested over their achievement.  They will get a colored bead from me when they have completed a song successfully.  They goals is completing all the songs, 9 or completing 8.  This is provide them with an A, if they successfully complete 6 or 7 it will be a "B" for a final grade, If they complete 5 or 4, it will be a "C", 2-3 songs will be a D.  We are completing the first song in class.  Any questions, please let me know.

Guitars- Seeing a great amount of hard work in this group.  They are learning new pieces, which they showcased at Mass last week.  This group takes a lot of self motivation, and our students are really proving to do just that!

Music Agenda 4/13-4/17

********April 11th: Little Mermaid Jr. Work day! It is a Saturday at Holy Spirit.  We will be painting Scenery, Making props and other items needed for the show. We still need painting supplies if you can spare them or painting rollers.  The kids will get pizza and drinks for lunch.  It is important they are there to help.  If you can help with watching kids, please let me know.  If your child cannot attend, please let me know asap.  If you can loan us drop cloths or rollers or paint brushes that would be great as well.  Kids need to wear clothes that can get dirty. Please check out costume email, for details on what your child needs in the next few weeks!

Kindergarten- Students will be responding to my cues by singing and and using body percussion and instrumental sounds. Students will be improvising with answers to questions and with instruments and found items also.  We will also read the book Chicka Chicka Boom Boom. 

First Grade-  Instrument improvising and creating individually, in pairs and in small groups.

Second Grade-  We are going to listen to music and make movement and draw pictures.  Students will talk about emotions that go along with songs and pieces. 

Third Grade: Continued practice on creating measures and creating in groups with the music staff..  We are also learning about Dynamic Markings and lyrics, verses and refrain.

Fourth Grade-  Students have the packets and can begin to practice and prepare for playing tests during the week.  Students will work to learn songs in class, and then be tested over their achievement.  They will get a colored bead from me when they have completed a song successfully.  They goals is completing all the songs, 9 or completing 8.  This is provide them with an A, if they successfully complete 6 or 7 it will be a "B" for a final grade, If they complete 5 or 4, it will be a "C", 2-3 songs will be a D.  We are completing the first song in class.  Any questions, please let me know.

Third Grade: Notes and the staff learning in preparation for writing a lifeskills song with the barred instruments.  We are also learning about Dynamic Markings and lyrics, verses and refrain.

Fourth Grade- Starting on our recorder Karate Packets, we will be learning notes on the staff, notes on the staff and the fingers to use to make the notes.  Students will work to learn songs in class, and then be tested over their achievement.  They will get a colored bead from me when they have completed a song successfully.  They goals is completing all the songs, 9 or completing 8.  This is provide them with an A, if they successfully complete 6 or 7 it will be a "B" for a final grade, If they complete 5 or 4, it will be a "C", 2-3 songs will be a D.  We are completing the first song in class.  Any questions, please let me know.
