Starting next Monday Feburary 4th.  Annual Fund Practice will Begin after school from 3:00-4:00.  The next practice will be Friday February 8th from 3:00-4:00.  Schedules will be passed out at the first after school rehearsal. The students in Annual Fund will have practice during the school day Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 7:45-8:24.  Students who are not in the Annual Fund Dinner as a performer or prop assistant will be moved to a general music class.  All students will continue to have Art, PE, Spanish, just on a different day or time.  Students who have been in choir up to this point will continue to sing at the Wednesday and Sunday Masses as previously planned.   Any questions, please let me know!

Unfortunately we will not be able to do th CYO competition in February.  I did not realize a scheduling conflict and some students cannot attend due to conflicts. Thank you for your understanding and hopfully we will be able to participate in the following years!  Thank you!
 

New Middle School Homework Policy: If students do not submit homework by due date.  They will recieve a homework notice and will need to stay after school the following day to make up work with Mrs. Simms until 3:20.  Grades will be lowered for any work that is late.
Kindergarten:

1st grade
Writing notes and demonstrating with our bodies how they sound!
 
2nd Grade:
Solfege work, and practice with texts and boomwhackers continued work and assessment.
 
3rd Grade: 
Treble Clef, Solfege an Skips in Steps in music review.  Note names and beats work. Notes on the staff SMART Clickers assessment.
 
4th Grade: 
Crating flashcards to practice terms in pairs, using the SMART clickers to take assessment over terms knowledge
 
5th grade:
Music in history, how music was apart of our history long ago. Railroad, Revoluntionary War, Jamestown, and Patriotic Songs.  Why is this meaningful to us in music class.

Classes are the fourth Sunday of the following months: February, and March- students should wear uniforms at these Masses.  Meet in the West Vestibule with Mrs. Newhart at 11:30, for the 12:00 Masses.  If Middle School Choir Members are not attending the Sunday Masses, grades will be lowered, if I am not contacted.  Please communicate, I know things come up.  If you do not attend the Mass, please remind students of proper etiquette at Mass, no talking and acting reverent in the church.

6th Grade General Music:
Cultural Music Unit on Asia continued.  Students will work on learning music, dances and facts.  They will assessed on participation, effort, reflection questions and potential quizzes.  
 
7th Grade General Music:
Solfege and Warm ups, Dynamics and other terms review, Form in music continued. Students need to have notebooks for every class.  Analyzing music will be a skill we will work on this class. We will review music terms and art terms again.


8th Grade General Music
Aural rhythm identification- will be performing their rhythm on the piano, next class. They will be assessed over the following music terms: Dynamics, Articulation and other terms review, Repetition.  Students need to have notebooks for every class.  Solfege idenification for homework

Jubilance Choir will be NOT part of the CYO Music Organizational Contest. Due to some calender conflicts

Unfortunately we will not be able to do th CYO competition in February.  I did not realize a scheduling conflict and some students cannot attend due to conflicts. Thank you for your understanding and hopfully we will be able to participate in the following years!  Thank you!
Also this Sunday is the Sunday Mass at 12:00 at the church.  Please have students in the church to meet Mrs. Newhart at 11:30, in school uniforms. 
This Sunday is also a Holy Spirit Open House from 3-5.  If any students are available to attend the open house and sing, it would be great!  Sunday will be a very busy day!  Please have them in uniform in the music room from 3:330-4:30 and we will sing some songs from Church!  Thanks!
For students in grades 4-8th, On Feb 5th, 7PM,(6:30 arrival) there will be an East Deanery Mass welcoming Archbisop Tobin at Little Flower.  If you would like your child to be involved, please contact Paula Slinger at the church, paulaslinger@yahoo.com. She will provide you with more information. There will be a practice on Jan. 29th from 6-6:45pm at Little Flower.

AFD Auditions are Wednesday January 23rd from 3:00-5:00, all students interested in a role in the show "Alice In Wonderland" must attend the entire audition slot.  They will need a prepared song and the script.  Students need to turn in audition forms by Tuesday Jan. 22nd. 
 
Jubilance Choir will be part of the CYO Music Organizational Contest.  It is on Saturday Feburary 9th, in the afternoon.  More updates to come on transportation and other details, please mark your calendars!

Wow, the first semester has flown by!  Two great programs, a fabulous choir concert and caroling trip.  Excellent singing at Mass on Wednesdays, Friday and some Sundays!  Get work with learning new pieces for Mass in Spanish.  It is amazing to see the kids create, play, sing and grow as they work their way towards become more proficient in music!  It is a Joy to have your kids!  I hope you have a wonderful Christmas!

The Band and Choir Concert was fabulous!  The kids worked so hard!  It really showed.  The Middle School Jubilance Choir will perform their songs on the last day of school before and after the Mass on Dec. 21st.
Breakfast with Santa, this Saturday, 9:00-10:00, please have kids here by 8:30 in the music room.  Choir shirts and black pants, please.  I told them if they were going to eat, they needed to buy a ticket.  If they are singing and leaving it is fine to not buy a ticket. Thank you!

Kindergarten:
Reviewing "Must Be Santa", "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer", "Jingle Bells", "Mary Had a Baby" and "We wish you a Merry Christmas". We will be doing a gingerbread activity with the SMARTboard that involves counting and stories!

Breakfast with Santa- the Middle School Jubilance Choir has been asked to perform their Christmas show at the Breakfast with Santa this year.  Students are asked to be present from 9:00am to 10:00 to sing. If they wish to volunteer and help, please plan on doing so after the singing is over.  Students should wear choir shirt and black pants and be in the music room at 8:30.

This is concert and program week for Middle School Band and Choir students and grades 3-5!  The Band and Choir Concert will be Tuesday December 11th at 7:00.  The 3-5 program will be on Thursday December 13th at 1:30 and 7:00 P.M.   Choir needs to be downstairs in the music room or cafe by 6:30p.m, The evening of the concert. In grades 3-5, students need to be present in the intermediate hallway (in front of the office) in their labeled classroom by 6:30.  Please encourage the kids in grades 3-5 to practice their lines once or twice a night...they are forgetting them when they do not practice.

Kindergarten:
We are switching to Christmas gear....we will be doing "Must Be Santa", "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer", "Jingle Bells", "Mary Had a Baby" and "We wish you a Merry Christmas" 

 
1st grade

These kids are the island kids.  They are vacationing for Christmas... shorts, tank tops, flip flops, sandals, swim shirts, visors, sun hats, ect.  Please no swim suits on girls.  If there is any parent who has ideas on props for the stage to set the sandy beach theme, any help would be wonderful! Practice lines please.....practice makes permanent!

4th Grade: 
Continued work on program...it is Thursday!!!! These kids are elves and reindeer.  Most of them know what they are, Mrs. Glenn's class will decide on Wednesday. I have the ears and hats for the two characters.  Elves should wear some combination of green and red pants and shirts.  Shoes are up to you.  Tights are acceptable, but must be worn with shorts or skirts over them.  Reindeer wear brown shirts and pants, with black shoes for hooves.  Practice lines please.....practice makes permanent!

5th grade:
Continued work on program...it is Thursday!!!! Start thinking about Costumes, they are pirates.  So anything pirate is fine.  You do not have to purchase an expensive costume.  Any help with ideas please let me know.  I will talk with the kids about details for example- beards, hooks, eye patches, peg legs.  I do not want to all look the same so variety is critical.  Practice lines please.....practice makes permenant!
