Hello!  Things are really moving in music this week.  We have spent the last few weeks having fun together and getting to know one another, now it is music time!  In grades K-2 and 6-8 and choir. We are beginning to work on standard 5, one of the most important standards becasue it involves reading and decoding music.  Students in Mrs. Ray's class and grades 4 and 5 are working on program music for the October 20th, Halloween Program. PK is always a little different academically because they have integrated curriculum which focused on many musical tasks at one in progression.  Below is a more detailed agenda of what students are doing, please as them about it! Agenda 8-29-11

Hello everyone,

For those of you who were followers last year!  I wanted to change the page around for this year!  I will be posting all agendas on this front page instead of the tab so if the agenda is changed for the following week you are still able to view it.  I moved the events for this year under the events tab also.  All homework and classes will be listed on the posted agenda weekly.  For the last two weeks of school I always focus on activities that help reinforce procedures, and relationships with my students.  My goal is for them to be comfortable with me and for them to get to know each other.

The week of the 29th will be more "getting to know you" activities accept for students in Mrs. Ray's 3rd grade class, Mrs. Eastman's, Ms. Glenn's and Mrs. McMahon's classes who begin their program preparation.  They will be starring in a Halloween Program on October 20th at 7:00 in the gym. Costumes and more details will follow in later agendas.  I hope the kids have come home and talked to you already about what they have been learning, if not....please ask :) Having the communication at home reinforces what they do at school is important!

As always I am here for you for whatever you need, the future agendas will be more detailed, class by class!  Hope the year is starting well for everyone! Any questions!  asimms@holyspirit-indy.org

Can you believe it is the last week!?

What a great year it has been in the music room! The kids have grown so much! The hard work the kids did was apparent in the concerts, programs and the Annual Fund Dinner. Next week we will watching our programs in most classes and evaluating them, what can we fix for next year and what did we excel at! In Choir and Band we will be finishing up projects..the kids are doing tremendous! Sadly no PK and Kindergarten...what a fun group of kids can't wait to see them again next year. Band Sign ups for next year are outside my door, please have students do so during their lunch before Friday. Grades 6-8 Choir sign ups for next year are also outside the music, an audition schedule will be given to teachers for Friday May 4 during the school day in the morning. Students need to come prepared with a song. Please only encourage students to audition if they are very interested and commit to the choir program. Any questions, please let me know! 5th graders interested in choir will be selected at the beginning of the year. Have a great summer!

The Concert and Programs Wonderful!

Wow, where to start!!! The Concert that the Guitar Groups, Band and Choir students were featured at gleamed with brilliance! Every group sounded phenomenal, and overall was an exceptional performance! Choir Parents, please see the Jubilance tab for more about the concert.

Next week is Annual Fund Dinner, we will be having practices after school starting Sunday (Mother's Day) from 7:00-9:00 ad through the week. The Annual Fund Dinner is on thursday, I will give you more updates as Thursday approaches.

Any student in the Annual Fund needs to have their costume at school for the Sunday rehearsal. All choir members that do not have a part in the Annual Fund Dinner please be at the Sunday Practice.

The PK-2 Program was excellent, the kids shined!!! They worked so hard, They always amaze me at all they retain and do to create a successful performance. Thank you for all the help from parents, teachers, and all who have graciously given to make the program a success!

Kids in Eastman and McMahn's classes are working great on recorders, keep encouraging them to practice at home. Ask your child in Mrs. Eastman's class what they have learned about the Mouri Culture. The 6th graders, helped prepare for the concert and program last week and we talked about different music professions. Third grade working hard! Check the agenda for more details!

Let me know of an questions!
