Music Agenda 4/11-4/15

PK McLaughlin-  Mary had a little lamb, Little Bo Peep, Hot Cross Buns, Mary Mary Extra ordinary,  Laurie Berkner- Drive my car, The airplane song,  Bill Grogen's Goat, Johnny had one friend, Grandma Glasses, A Ram Sam Sam, Frog in the meadow with Guiro, Bling Blang, Keeping the beat #22, Jeanie Jenkins, ABC song, The Animal Alphaebet, I can wiggle

Kindergarten-  Here is the Beehive, Muffin Man, Singing in pitch, steady beat, and listening is our focus in music. 

1st grade: The Farmer and the Dell, we are working on pitch matching, steady beat, tempo, dynamics, and listening


2nd grade:  Brown Bread and Butter, working on pitch matching, steady beat.

3rd grade-Choir Chimes,  students will begin to learn about the instrument and start to play pieces in a group in which they will be responsible for their individual note. We are working on treble clef mastery and counting practice.  When we come back from Spring Break, I want them to perform their chime pieces at Mass.


4th grade- Improvising and Creating with Recorders, we are working on improvising and creating, mastery of Treble Clef and Mastery of counting rhythms.  Our fourth graders will be in the 5th grade band next year.  They are going to start later in the month trying instruments out to see what they think will fit best for them.  Please talk with your children, if there is an instrument you would like them to try.  If you have someone in your family who has an instrument collecting dust, it would be great to pull that out and if nothing else have someone else in the band use it.  We will be planning a parent meeting in May so that all parents are informed of expectations and plans for the upcoming year.   

5th grade-  Preparing for our concert on April 14th, We will continue to work on Treble and Bass Clef reading, counting mastery.  Students need to start thinking of what their music choice will be for middle school. They can be in Class Choir, this is singing only in class; Performance Choir, this is our Mass choir and they have concerts and field trips.  Guitars is an option, students must take private lessons elsewhere to be apart of this group.  Band is the other option.  If they wish to do band and choir, we can help them with going to each class 2 days a week.

Class Choir Class- Our focus is on composers in music, rhythms, and singing

Performance Choir Class is now the Annual Fund Dinner Class-   We are going to try and have a practice on Wed. March 30th.  We will eat at 12:00 and then practice until 2:00, if students have conferences they can leave when needed.

AFD practice for Beauty and the Beast Jr. March we all have Wed, Thurs practice after school from 3:00-4:30.  
May 2nd, 4th, 5th (rehearsals for the show 3:00-5:00)
May 9th-11 (rehearsals for the show 3:00-5:00)
AFD show May 12th and May 13th
Graduation Mass- June 1st(Performance Choir Requirement, excluding 8th grade)

3rd grade-Choir Chimes,  students will begin to learn about the instrument and start to play pieces in a group in which they will be responsible for their individual note.


4th grade- We will be working with steady beat and rhythm improvement in the recorder packets this week.

5th grade-  Go Tell Aunt Roadie, and Go big green.  We also are working on fingerings and warm up!  Students will be assessed on their knowledge of their fingerings!  We will continue to work through the book.

Performance Choir Class is now the Annual Fund Dinner Class-  Don't forget about the work day on Saturday in Cafe from 9:00-5:00.  Please make sure kids are at practice, for next week, we don't have practice on Thursday because it is Holy Thursday.  The week of conferences, we are going to try and have a practice on Wed. March 30th.  We will eat at 12:00 and then practice until 2:00, if students have conferences they can leave.

Kindergarten- Doggie Doggie, Here is the Beehive

2nd grade: We will continue to learn about instruments  associated with world cultures. They will also practice their Holy Thursday Music. 

3rd grade-Choir Chimes,  students will begin to learn about the instrument and start to play pieces in a group in which they will be responsible for their individual note.

4th grade- We will be working with steady beat and rhythm improvement in the recorder packets for the next two weeks.  

5th grade-  Go Tell Aunt Roadie, and Go big green.  We also are working on fingerings and warm up!  Students will be assessed on their knowledge of their fingerings!  We will continue to work through the book.


Guitar Class- Continued work for their concert on April 14th at 9:00 A.M.  They do a beautiful job at Mass, always working and growing

Class Choir Class- We are working on counting rhythms accurately in multiple meters, we are also studying more composers.

Performance Choir Class is now the Annual Fund Dinner Class-   Parents- we have several students missing after school practices for various appointments, please try and schedule appointments for after school Mon, Tues or Fridays...we need kids at practice.  Please remember if students miss more than 5 practices they will have to bow out of the show.  

*Off book!  All students should be off book-meaning they have their lines memorized.  They will need to bring scripts to take notes and practice unmemorized music. 


Starting in March practice will be on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:00-4:30.   We are focusing on "Be our guest", Human Again.  We need help with costumes, if students in their roles can come up with ideas and provide their own, that would be great!  Let me know if you have any questions!

Music Agenda 3/7-3/11

Kindergarten- The Old Grey Cat, Down by the Bay

1st grade: Button you must wander, 

2nd grade- Holy Thursday Presentation work begins. We will begin to learn about instruments  associated with world cultures.  
3rd grade-"He's got the whole World in his hands" unit continues. We are going to start using the orff instruments, which are percussion instruments.  We will continue to review note values and 3.2.1 Echo melodic and rhythmic patterns. 3.2.2 Play given pitch patterns on a mallet instrument, keyboard, or recorder. 3.2.3 Play instruments in a group with a steady beat, appropriate dynamics, and correct technique. 
3.2.4 Use correct names for classroom instruments including those from world cultures. 3.2.5 Play four-measure melodies on pitched percussion instruments. 3.2.6 Play ostinato accompaniments on pitched and non-pitched classroom instruments, independently and with others. 3.2.7 Follow the cues of a conductor.  We are going to focus on giving names to the instruments in the room, and repeating melodic and rhythmic ostinatos.  

4th grade- Recorder work! Some students have moved onto the challenge packet.  Last week of recorder!  Students will get their packet grades and we will start to clean rhythms and other music concepts until the end of the quarter Some students have moved to the challenge packets!
