Music Agenda 2/2-2/6

*****Anyone that has a talent for sewing we need help with costumes for Annual Fund dinner, please contact me, we want to set up a meeting next week to plan out what we can do and need.  

********Grades should be visible in the grade book, all middle school students will be listed as music.  They cannot be indicated as band or choir as the gradebook will not allow for it.  Because it will lose the first and 2nd quarter grades.  We are working on the problem to be resolved for next year.  Any questions, please let me know! 

Kindergarten- Steady Beat, Loud and Soft, fast and slow, Call and Answer are the skills we are reviewing.  I will be assessing kids on how they are responding to the terms next week. 


First Grade-  Students will review notes and reading rhythms.  Students will continue practice writing notes and rhythms for identification practice.  We will continue reading with Solfege. We are working toward Fierabend Curriculm which helps with improvising and pitch matching.

Second Grade-  We will continue to respond to music and identify different aspects of the music.

Third Grade: Kids will work on their the music terms through stations and I will assess kids of their understanding of the music vocabulary.

Fifth Grade- 
    ISTEP- https://newsela.com/articles/anthem-manuscript/id/4376/, students will learn about the National Anthem.  We have had some technology issues and hopefully we can get to the article this week! :) Johnny has gone for a soldier,  Students will listen to the songs and research what the song is really about.


Fourth Grade- We will continue to learn new terms; dynamics,  articulation, Tempo, rhythm, melody in music and applying them to our music and seeing how they are used with different pieces and songs. We will begin writing a portfolio with illustrations of music experiences in our lives following the prompts in class.  Writing prompts will be graded using the ISTEP rubric.

Annual Fund Dinner(AFD) Little Mermaid Jr.-   Students are working through the script as we learn the songs, dances and lines.  First week in March students have to have all parts memorized in the script. 

Advanced Band- First Period band students are working on solos for ISSMA and CYO competitions.  The Advanced group will also perform at a concert during the school day in mid May.  We are still waiting on a finalized date for the East Deanery band festival as well.   Advanced band will be assessed next week over their progress on their solo piece. 

Beginning Band- Students in band will have a playing test next week.  Recorders will be assessed on their fingerings, Choir chimes on number 51 in the book, and other instruments on number 48. 

Guitars- Students will be assessed over different chord progression and solos based on their progress and expectations thus far.

Music Agenda 1/26-1/30

Kindergarten- We are reviewing Steady Beat, soft and loud, fast and slow we will begin to work on rests in music.  We will be moving, singing, and playing instruments with the song.  We will be learning about and singing question and answer songs such as "Doggie Doggie", "Here is the Bee Hive", "All the Little Ducklings", "The Wild Horseman". 

First Grade-  Students will review notes and reading rhythms.  Students will continue practice writing notes and rhythms for identification practice.  We will also begin to look at sofege(Do, Re, Mi).  We will begin to start reading with Solfege. We will write notes that we have already learned. We will expand our solfege knowledge by using John Feierabend Curriulum.  We are working on the 2nd year lessons, There's a hole in my bucket to enhance the singing voice.

Second Grade-  We will finish with identifying instruments in a family with the listening cards.   We will listen and respond to the story, "Peter and the Wolf", the book tells the story using instruments that depict the different animals in the story.

Third Grade-   We will be learning some new terms in music to add to our word wall. Tempo, dynamics, articulation, rhythmic and melodic through movements, writing and illustration and movement stations. We will identify the musical instruments by sight and sound.

Band- Band is a busy place to be!  We have students that are learning choir chimes through the direction of Mrs. Epple.  Some students new to band are learning recorder fingerings and music.  The students who have been in band all year are continue to fine tune their skills.  Please make sure your child is bringing their instruments Mon, Tues, Thurs, and Fri.  The instruments need to be here for them to play, we want them progressing.  Students are learning about how to read music, practice and how they can improve themselves musically.

Music Agenda 1/20-1/25

Not sure what happened with my Blog last week, this week I think I have it fixed!  I was gone for a conference and my son was sick last week.  The sub plans went in a different direction, so we will be going the same plans for last week, as we did not do them!  Thank you! 

Kindergarten- We are continuing a focused unit on Steady Beat.  We will be moving, singing, and playing instruments with the song, Johnny Works with One Hammer, Hickory Dickory Dock, Stars and Stripes Forever, Hickety Tickety Bumble Bee, and Old McDonald.  We are going to continue to learn about loud and soft in music and move towards note reading as we learn quarter notes and rests and 2 eighth note patterns.   We will also look at fast and slow in music.

First Grade-  Students will review notes and reading rhythms.  Students will continue practice writing notes and rhythms for identification practice.  We will also begin to look at sofege(Do, Re, Mi).  We will begin to start reading with Solfege. We will write notes that we have already learned. 

Second Grade-  We will begin identifying classroom and orchestral instruments and their families through sight and sound.  We will pay some games to practice and memorize.  We will also play instrument Bingo and do an instrument crossword puzzle.

Third Grade- We will look at "form" in music and how it plays a role in music.  We will learn the song "Sally Goodin" and do some learning from the music textbook. We will continue with forms with identifying listening examples.  Students will be writing and explaining different parts of a song.

Annual Fund Dinner(AFD) Little Mermaid Jr.-   Students will receive a contract for AFD and another schedule to make sure all parents are informed of all expectations of the AFD class, practices, requirements and performances ahead of time.  You should have received and email from me with the practice schedule attached please let me know if you have any concerns scheduling wise.  Students will be practicing in class the music, and after school most Mondays and Wednesdays until 4:00 for the staging.  Stage crew, excluding Slights, sound and tech crew will not be needed until March.  

Band- If students are not in AFD they are apart of the band or playing some instrument part.  Students who have advanced are moving to 1st period and becoming part of the advanced group.  Mrs. Epple and I will work on curriculum and she will be leading the kids during the period mostly. This group will meet at the same time as AFD class as some students are a part of both groups.  The remainder of the students will stay with the regular band group, 2nd period kids have been divided into choir chime group, bell groups and recorder groups.  Kids will work with choir chimes, symphonic instruments, bells and recorders.  If students have been in the band all year they will continue to work with their instrument. More details will come as we work with the kids and evaluate interests and abilities to make a curriculum that is beneficial for all our students in the group.  Mrs. Newhart will continue with the guitars.  If students in advanced band are wishing to do CYO please give the information to myself or Mrs. Epple so we can help get it submitted deadline is Thurs Jan 15th.

Music Agenda 1/10-1/14

Kindergarten-  Kids will try on animal headbands next week.  Please let me know if you have any concerns with your portion of the costumes, i.e. shirts and pants.   I am here to help, please let me know any concerns!   The Program is on November 13th at 7:00.  We are also having a daytime performance at 1:30, which is different than originally sent home!  Please let me know if your child cannot attend.   A parents has contacted me and let me know Walmart offers many of the jungle animal costumes at a very discounted price, if you want to go that route.  They are working so hard!!!  They are so excited for you to see the show!

This year's Annual Fund Dinner Show will be, "The Little Mermaid Jr", Annual Fund Dinner Musical Auditions will be on November 19th from 3:00-5:00 in the music room.  Students will wait in the cafe until their audition. Students need to bring things to do, such as electronics or other work to keep them busy.  We will do call backs so it is important that kids stay until 5:00 that day.  Auditions will only be made up for school absence. Please contact me with any concerns.  The lists will be posted the Friday after.   

Choir- Focus on vocal technique.  Students are graded weekly with a rubric.  The expectations of the rubric are as follows, Posture, while singing; Participation, Singing technique, and dynamic levels(volume) Weekly we have Mass music practice and discuss singing Mass Expectations.  Students in choir will get a biweekly Mass grade for participation.  Students in class choir will write an essay in place of performing at Mass. We will practice our Program Songs, Figgy Pudding, Merry Merry Joy Joy, Season of Bells, Christmas Wonderland.  Class Choir students will be performing for the class the day after the concert for their peers.
