Music Agenda 2/29-3/4

ISTEP WEEK!!!  3-8th need breakfast!!!!!

Kindergarten- Continue Echo, steady beat work, Nursery Rhythms Mania

1st grade: We will continue to learn patriotic songs in celebration of Presidents day! 1.6.1 Show changes in tempo, dynamics, and mood using movement in response to music.1.6.3 Identify phrases of a song as same or different and listen for repetition of phrases. 1.6.4 Identify and demonstrate appropriate listening behavior during a classroom or outside performance. 1.7.1 Discuss the place and personal importance of music at home, at school, and in the community.   We will begin to have 5 seconds concerts, and learn audience procedures.

2nd grade- Holy Thursday Presentation work continues, grades based on participation, practice and memorization.

3rd grade- We are taking a break from our previously scheduled unit to move and be active because of ISTEP.  We will learn a dance from Russia called "Sasha", and another dance and song "Draw me a Bucket of Water" if there is time.

4th grade- We are taking a break from our previously scheduled unit to move and be active because of ISTEP.  Agadu, Blue Bird

5th grade- No instruments needed, We are taking a break from our previously scheduled unit to move and be active because of ISTEP.  Sevivon, and Bongo 


Guitars, Class Choir Class and performance choir will be combined with band classes and we(U.A. team) will move with them for one period in the morning to get their brains jumpstarted for ISTEP. When students are in the music room we will learn - Sasha, Yesh- 2 cultural dances

Starting in March practice will be on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 3:00-4:30.  I have posted on edmodo the schedule and the kids have a hard copy for January and Febuary.   We are focusing on "Be our guest".  We need help with costumes, if students in their roles can come up with ideas and provide their own, that would be great!  Let me know if you have any questions!

AFD practice for Beauty and the Beast Jr.  will be Wednesday and Thursdays in Feburary. March we all have Wed. Thurs practice after school from 3:00-4:30

2nd grade- Holy Thursday Presentation work begins. Steady beat and echoing continues, We will begin to learn about instruments  associated with world cultures.  
3rd grade-"He's got the whole World in his hands" unit continues. We are going to start using the orff instruments, which are percussion instruments.  We will continue to review note values and 3.2.1 Echo melodic and rhythmic patterns. 3.2.2 Play given pitch patterns on a mallet instrument, keyboard, or recorder. 3.2.3 Play instruments in a group with a steady beat, appropriate dynamics, and correct technique. 3.2.4 Use correct names for classroom instruments including those from world cultures. 3.2.5 Play four-measure melodies on pitched percussion instruments. 3.2.6 Play ostinato accompaniments on pitched and non-pitched classroom instruments, independently and with others. 3.2.7 Follow the cues of a conductor.  We are going to focus on giving names to the instruments in the room, and repeating melodic and rhythmic ostinatos.  

4th grade- Recorder work! Some students have moved onto the challenge packet.  We focusing on rhythms and steady beat.  Some students have moved to the challenge packets! 

5th grade-  Hot Cross Buns and Go Tell Aunt Roady, we also are working on fingerings and warm up! .  Students will be assessed on their knowledge of their fingers!  We will continue to work through the book.


Guitar Class- Awesome Mass last week.  The kids do such a great job of preparing, this is a great group of self motivators!  

Class Choir Class- We are working on counting rhythms accurately in multiple meters.

Performance Choir Class is now the Annual Fund Dinner Class-   Parents- we have several students missing after school practices for various appointments, please try and schedule appointments for after school Mon, Tues or Fridays...we need kids at practice.  Please remember if students miss more than 5 practices they will have to bow out of the show.  

All February after school practices are from 3:00-4:00 in the music room. 5th grade-  Hot Cross Buns and Go Tell Aunt Roady, we also are working on fingerings and warm up! .  Some students are working with Mrs. Epple for contest, they have their contest this weekend!  I am sad to miss it! Best wishes to our talented kids! 

Guitar Class- Students took a field trip to a nursing home and played and a group sang... Our students are giving of themselves and serving others! 

Class Choir Class-  The kids are learning to sing in the "high"voice and match pitch.  We are working on popcorn which is cannon we will work towards singing in 3 parts. The kids did a Venn diagram this week comparing the composers from Baroque and Mideval periods. We are working on counting rhythms accurately in multiple meters and we will move to instrument playing in individual parts when we have achieved accuracy in counting.

Music Agenda 2/8-2/12

Kindergarten- Continued practice Using Boomwhackers and rhythm sticks assessments will on steady beat and echoing rhythms continue: We will be working on standards: K.2.1 Echo four-beat rhythmic patterns played by the teacher using body percussion or classroom instruments. K.2.2 Maintain a steady beat while playing an instrument in a group. We will also do rhythm sticks with songs from other cultures.  Song from Ireland, Piper Piper; Song from Greece, review other pieces from Caribbean, Isreal and Puerto Rico,India, Australia 

1st grade-1.5.1 Read and perform simple four-beat patterns with quarter notes, eighth notes, and quarter rests using rhythm syllables. 1.5.2 Notate quarter notes, eighth notes, and quarter rests using iconic or standard notation. 1.5.3 Use body percussion and movement to demonstrate rhythmic patterns. 1.5.4 Read simple pitch patterns from a staff using solfège and hand signs and demonstrate pitch placement with body movement. We will do mini lessons and centers to practice the different skills 

2nd grade- 2.2.1 Echo melodic and rhythmic patterns. 2.2.2 Maintain a steady beat and play with appropriate dynamic levels. 2.2.3 Play classroom instruments with the proper technique, holding them correctly. 2.2.4 Learn correct names for classroom instruments and identify those associated with world cultures. 2.2.5 Play simple ostinatos while others sing. 2.2.6 Follow the cues of a conductor with regard to tempo and dynamics. We are going to continue to work on vocabulary of instruments in the room. We are also going to talk about tempo and dymanics and how that  plays out in music making.

5th grade-  Focus on Rolling Along, Hot Cross Buns and Go Tell Aunt Roady.  Some students are working with Mrs. Epple for contest. 

Guitar Class- Preparation for Mass, Students will continue to work on different pieces as well.  We are now offering guitar lessons at school that are on Tuesdays, the forms have been sent home.  We also have a Thursday group that comes to Scecina in a jam session format if any experience players want to join!!!

Class Choir Class-  Composer Tributes and pieces, instrument name learning, instrument rhythm playing and singing! Students will be reflecting and comparing different composers.  Students will work on counting and playing different rhythms.
