Music Agenda 8/24-8/28


PK Mc- We are starting Class with a prayer for musicians. We will be continue working with the John Fierabend Curriculum which assists kids in learning to hear pitches, use their voices and steady beat in early voice development.  The activities we will will do are "Ice Cream", "A man went up in an airplane", "Freeze Dance", "I am a pizza", "Itsey Bitsy Spider, ABC Rock, Drumming the beat, and learning a few Nursery Rhymes.  Students also will be visiting our musical bird puppet beaker, he makes silly sounds to help them explore their voices! We will work on our theme Fruits of the spirit commitment and Fruits of the Spirit Tree.


K-The book and song, We are starting Class with a prayer for musicians."This little light of Mine", clapping game "Sailor",  review "Ruma Tum Tum", Hello Song,  Goodbye songs, Warming up dance, Students will have a fall program on Oct 29th, at 7:00pm, they will be singing "Be Nice Today, Who Built the Ark, Animals Loaded two by two, and "We all celebrate".  We will begin practicing this week and continue until the program.  We will work on our theme Fruits of the spirit commitment and Fruits of the Spirit Tree.

"Miss Mary Mack" clapping song, Students will have a fall program on Oct 29th, at 7:00pm.  We will be working motions, songs and lines the next few weeks.  The songs we will be working on are, "A Bunch of Animals", "Wings of a Dove", "The Rainbow" and "We all celebrate" We will work on our theme Fruits of the spirit commitment and Fruits of the Spirit Tree.

2- We are starting Class with a prayer for musicians. "Frog in the bucket", "Human Chain game", Students will have a fall program on Oct 29th, at 7:00pm. We will be working motions, songs and lines the next few weeks.  The songs we will be working on are, "Candle on the Water", "Wonderful World", "Old Ark" and "We all celebrate" We will work on our theme Fruits of the spirit commitment and Fruits of the Spirit Tree.

3-We are starting Class with a prayer for musicians. "Supermarket Shuffle", The Christmas Program will be on Dec. 3rd at 7:00, We will begin working songs in October.  Some skills we will focus on this quarter, Sight Reading rhythmically, Melodically with Solfege, Steps and Skips identification, Musical terms with word wall, Interpret notated music through visual, aural, and kinesthetic means,We will work on our theme Fruits of the spirit commitment and Fruits of the Spirit Tree.

4-We are starting Class with a prayer for musicians. "Austrian Went Yodeling", The Christmas Program is on Dec. 3rd at 7:00.  Sight Reading rhythmically, Melodically with Solfege, Sharps, Flats, Naturals in the Keys of C,G, F, Musical terms found within the music. We will work on our theme Fruits of the spirit commitment and Fruits of the Spirit Tree.

5- We are starting Class with a prayer for musicians. Band and Choir split within the curriculum- Please mark your calendars!!!  There will be a meeting for all 5th grade parents to discuss instruments on September 1st, at 7:00.  On Tuesday of this week students will be trying instruments with the music professionals at Musicians Repair during our class period.  Students will engaging in participating with instruments and singing in the same class.  Students will still participate in the Christmas Program, Dec. 3rd at 7:00.  Students will not only sing, but will also perform an instrumental piece! We will work on our theme Fruits of the spirit commitment and Fruits of the Spirit Tree.

Guitars- They are working with Mrs. Newhart, her email is sandranewhart@yahoo.com  Students will work on music reading, Mass music, chords, and program pieces.

Bands- Mrs. Michele Epple is the band instructor this year, mepple@holyspirit-indy.org.  Any band questions, please send her an email. 

Class Choir- We are starting Class with a prayer for musicians.Yonder Come Day, Roadkill Stew, Rhythm Reading, Fruits of the spirit commitment and Fruits of the Spirit Tree.

Performance Choir- We are starting Class with a prayer for musicians. Fruits of the spirit commitment and Fruits of the Spirit Tree, Solfege Round, This Flag we fly, Mass Practice, Keys to good singing and Warm ups.

Welcome Back! Week of 8/18-8/21

Hello Everyone!

Welcome back to Holy Spirit, we are glad you are here! This week in music we will be doing songs, get to know you activities and name games.  Our goal for this week is for your child to feel safe with teachers and their peers.  We spend this time to foster relationships and connect each class together.  We discuss procedures to create a positive classroom environment.  Thank you for letting us teach your children!

Music Agenda 6/1-6/3

I cannot believe the year is almost over!  I have seen such musical talent and growth from our kids at Holy Spirit  as we the year has gone forward.  The kids have achieved so much from a Fall Program, Christmas Program, First Communion, Annual Fund, Christmas Concert, Mass Singing, Choir Field Trip, Band Festival, Band Concerts, Projects, classwork with making creations, playing recorders, Piano recital, and too many others to mention.  Thank you for sending your child to Holy Spirit, it has been a great year of working with them!  Looking forward to next year!  God Bless you!

Kindergarten- No Kindergarten :( Have a great summer! See you in first grade!!! :)


First Grade- "A tisket a tasket" circle game, "Farmer in the Dell", and review 
other musical games they enjoyed throughout the year.


Second Grade- We are going to  review some gross and annoying songs "Greasy Grimy Gopher Guts", "On top of my Pizza", "Roadkill stew",   Brown Bread and Butter O, and other musical games they enjoyed throughout the year.


Third Grade: The kids have worked so hard on their barred instrument creations, I am so proud to see such music growth, I will only see 1 class next week.  So we will have a favorite music activity day, which they can choose from music activities we have done in the year to review. 

Fourth Grade- The kids have worked so hard on recorders, I am so proud to see such music growth, I will only see 1 class next week.  So we will have a favorite music activity day, which they can choose from music activities we have done in the year to review. 

Fifth Grade- No more 5th grade classes :(  Have a great summer!

Music Agenda 5/26-5/29

*******Students know that singing at the graduation Mass tomorrow at 7:00 is a requirement. I would like AFD and Mass Choir students in 5th-7th in my classroom at 6:30, please.  Students in grades 6-7th in the Annual Fund Group understand if they cannot attend the Mass they will be writing an essay on the history of Mass Music due Friday.      


*******Forms for 5th, 6th and 7th grade students for their music selection need to be in Tomorrow with a parent signature.  Band or choir for next year.  Please get those in TOMORROW, we are dividing classes tomorrow for next year! 


********Students wishing to be in choir next semester (5th, 6th, 7th) need to audition next Tomorrow, sign up on my door.

********DVD orders for the Little Mermaid Jr.  deadline by end of the day I have to know by Tuesday, how many to order!  Thanks!

Second Grade- We are going to do some gross and annoying songs "Greasy Grimy Gopher Guts", "On top of my Pizza", "Roadkill stew",   Brown Bread and Butter O


Third Grade: Students will continue performing their created pieces. We will go outside and play Bob-a-needle.  

Fourth Grade- They are working so hard to meet their goals with recorders!  They are reading more complicated rhythms and learning new notes as they progress through the songs!  I am so proud of them!  

Fifth Grade- 5th graders need their recorders for this week and next week, please check in to make sure they have them!  Students will need to start thinking about there middle school year.  For music, students in middle school have to choose, Band or Choir for first semester and in the second semester, Annual Fund Dinner(musical) or band. Students should have sheets, if not I have attached a sheet for your convenience.  Please let me know any concerns as we are planning in the next few weeks! We will work on music from recorder karate 2, with the time available this week.  Students will need their recorders everyday music class!


Annual Fund Dinner(AFD) Little Mermaid Jr.: For music, students in middle school have to choose, Band or Choir for first semester and in the second semester, Annual Fund Dinner(musical) or band. The sign ups for the groups will be first come, first serve, so the groups will fill up fast depending on your child's preference. Students should have sheets, if not I have attached a sheet for your convenience.  Students are preparing for glee projects: Due date Thusday! 

The Advanced, Beginning Band  groups and Guitars:  For music, students in middle school have to choose, Band or Choir for first semester and in the second semester, Annual Fund Dinner(musical) or band.  The sign ups for the groups will be first come, first serve, so the groups will fill up fast depending on your child's preference. Students should have sheets, if not I have attached a sheet for your convenience. Students will be be learning about the science of Sound and music for the reminder of the classes.

Music Agenda 5/18-5/22

BAND CONCERT!!!! TUESDAY MAY 19th, It will be an awesome concert 9:00-9:45!   They will be playing some favorites, "Go big Green", "Hey Song", " "Happy", "Happy Birthday!", "Jaws", Its going to be great fun!

Kindergarten- Students will dance and sing with the circle game "Charlie goes over the Ocean", and "Round and Round the village".  Students will do "5 Second" concerts and practice appropriate audience participation. 


First Grade- "A tisket a tasket" circle game, "Farmer in the Dell", circle game.  We will learn a outh African Songs and game. 


Second Grade- We are going to do some gross and annoying songs "Greasy Grimy Gopher Guts", "On top of my Pizza", "Roadkill stew", Using the boomwhackers students will create a song in groups for two class periods.  They will preform the following week.  

Third Grade: Students continue working with the barred instruments. They will finish up their 9 measures of created music and perform for the class next week. 

Fourth Grade-  Recorders need to be in music class weekly, we are forgetting our recorders, please remind the kids to bring them!  Weekly grades are effected because students cannot test if they don't have the instrument. 

Fifth Grade-  Students will need to start thinking about there middle school year.  For music, students in middle school have to choose, Band or Choir for first semester and in the second semester, Annual Fund Dinner(musical) or band.  Next Thurs May 21st, there will be a 7:00 band call out meeting for parents of 5th graders. Last week Mrs. Epple, parent and volunteer of the school came to school. She had the students try out instruments to help them make a decision of band or choir for next year.  If band is their option we will be doing a Instrument meeting on May 21th from 7:00-8:00 to talk with instrumental professionals and get things in order for the following year.  Please let me know you are going to attend, we want to have a good turn out. Please let me know any concerns as we are planning in the next few weeks! We will work on music from recorder karate 2, with the time available this week.  Students will need their recorders everyday music class!


Annual Fund Dinner(AFD) Little Mermaid Jr.: What an amazing show!!  The kids really shined!  From performing to serving to stage crew our kids did  wonderful!  Thank you to Miss Richardson, Mrs. Welty, Ms. Peacock, Mr. Moran, Mrs. Newhart, Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. Stuczynski, Mrs. Spears, Mrs. Hurst, Mrs. Epple, Mrs. Conway, Mrs. Baker, Mrs. Hartman, Mr. Branigan, and Mrs. Chappelow.  We could have not done show without your help! For music, students in middle school have to choose, Band or Choir for first semester and in the second semester, Annual Fund Dinner(musical) or band.  Next Thurs May 21st, there will be a 7:00 band call out meeting for parents that are interested in information about renting an instrument.  The sign ups for the groups will be first come, first serve, so the groups will fill up fast depending on your child's preference. Students will get sheets to be signed by their parents to select their groups.

Music Agenda 5/11-5/15

Third Grade: Students continue working with the barred instruments.  They have been copying rhythms and patterns to become proficient in playing the instrument.  We will continue playing song, and begin to start creating measures of music.

If your child misses they cannot take part in the show unfortunately, we will hold firm to this rule.  We want all your kids to participate, but next week.  They have to be here to practice.  Thurs and Fri we have shows, we need them here and they will have some late nights this week Wed, Thurs and Fri.  Please voice any concerns!  Thank you for communicating when the kids have had to miss!
